Art is all about being a medium of expression. Many do it with words, some with the beauty of movement, while others with colors. Rami Dagar is a passionate photographer, who chooses to express though his photographs.

He realized his inclination towards the aesthetics of his surroundings early on in life, however, it was only later when he went to Sweden was he able to pursue it. For him learning was a process discovery, which seemed beyond anything that a formal institution could offer. So it was always about him learning from his own photographs, how he could make them better and how he could click pictures that best expressed him. Being different in the approach of his persona, he very well brings that element out, in his works. Where people discard the photographs that are not sharp, Mr. Dagar works with the rawness of the image, “sharp images are too predictable”, he says.

Another very interesting aspect of his pictures is its spontaneity, which again is reflective of the person that he is. Being fond of biking and traveling, his endeavors become his explorations. Capturing the essence of the moment, which can be thought about but not planned, he creates a perfect blend of serenity and nature. This also becomes his prime subject of interest. He deals with all the elements that reflect nature in its untouched form. Many times, this also means waiting endlessly for that perfect shot. Emphasis here is not only on the subject matter but also on the light and the contrast created because of that. Colors are also greatly the effect of the light, as he does not rework on the images later on.

His pictures though not different in subject matter, are different in approach. The freshness of colors and the diverse composition, make the pictures very interesting and at times even unreal. However, these present the beauty that is present around us but not all of us have the eye to see or capture it.

Oasis of Colour, a solo exhibition of photographs by Rami Dagar will be on at Gallery Ensign from 23rd to 31st July 2011.
